Distribution
Britain:
Widespread throughout Britain but less common northwards.
Ireland:
Throughout (Johnson & Halbert 1902).
Ecology
Predominantly a tree species. Taken on sycamore (2), birch(1), hawthorn(1), Sitka spruce(1), oak(1) and willow (3). One specimen was swept in pasture. Aphid-feeding.
Variation
None observed apart from variation in the ground colour which ranges from yellowish-brown to dark brown. This can be a function of the maturity of the chitin of the elytra and teneral (immature) specimens are generally paler.
